Skywarn Youth Net: Sunday Evenings at 7:30 Central
(preempted during severe weather)
The Skywarn Youth Net is sponsored by Southwest Missouri Regional Skywarn – the official Skywarn repeater system endorsed by the National Weather Service in Springfield, Missouri. The purpose of this net is to provide a forum to encourage young amateur radio operators and their families to key up and get out on the air and to create an educational awareness among these operators about Skywarn and basic weather facts.
The Skywarn Youth Net meets on most of the Southwest Missouri Regional Skywarn repeaters and on EchoLink Node: 291849 or N∅NWS-R every Sunday evening at 7:30 Central. During severe weather outbreaks, this net will be pre-empted to allow for official Skywarn traffic on this repeater system.

During the Skywarn Youth Net, we will first take check-in’s from any and all hams regardless of location and age who have limited time and who would like to quickly check in and out. Then we will start with stations on EchoLink and then go from repeater to repeater calling first for young hams and their family members and then from any and all hams.
We will then open the net to hams who have youths within their households who are not yet licensed but who are interested in getting their licenses. Those hams can then properly (in accordance with FCC Rules Sec. 97.115) allow these future hams to check in as a third party if they wish. After we make our rounds to each linked repeater, we will again open it up for anyone anywhere to check in.
We invite all young hams, their families and the amateur radio community in general to check into this net. Young hams are the future of this hobby, and we encourage them to get involved, to get out on the air and talk, and to invite their friends to become hams as well. We also hope that all participants will learn more about Skywarn activities and about weather.

The “Skywarn Youth: Did You Know” segment is produced by participating young amateur radio operators in an effort to expand our knowledge about basic weather facts. A new topic is usually presented every two weeks on the Skywarn Youth Sunday evening nets. These topics will then be archived here for future reference.
