“It’s All Greek to Me: Part 2”
by Caleb, KE0FOE
One month ago I reported that for only the second time ever, we had run out of hurricane and tropical storm names in the Atlantic Ocean. This meant that all new and forthcoming tropical storms and hurricanes this season in the Atlantic would be assigned letters from the Greek alphabet. I also mentioned that the last time this happened was in 2005 which was the notorious season that spawned the very deadly Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans and surrounding areas.
Finally, I mentioned that in 2005, we didn’t spill over into the Greek alphabet until October 22nd.
Well, here we are on October 25th of this year, and we now have a new tropical storm named Zeta! This means we have tied the 2005 hurricane season and it’s only late October.
How far down the Greek alphabet will we go this year in the Atlantic Ocean? Stay tuned to the National Hurricane Center Website.
